Share with the person who does the same exercise everyday for their pain but is not getting better!
No matter your pain, there are A LOT of generic advice exercises out there. Some might be great for you. Others may be terrible for you. How do you know the difference? You cannot rely on how you feel during an exercise to tell you whether it is good or bad for you. I have seen both types of people:
1. Oh it hurts, that’s how I know it’s working. It’s a good type of pain.
2. I do not try anything that causes even a little bit of pain in fear of making my problem worse.
Both of these people are sometimes right and sometimes wrong. The truth is I do not care what you feel during an exercise – I care about the result afterward; how you feel after, how you move after, how the function of your joint is after. The truth about the benefit of an exercise is often simple, but you have to know the rules and how to interpret the results.
Do you have a go-to exercise or stretch? How do you know it’s good? What do you think of this method of interpretation?
I’d love to hear feedback!
